What Applicants Need To Do:

1. Print, complete, and sign the Partner Family Application.

2. Write a letter explaining your situation and your need for housing, and your ability to complete the required ‘sweat equity’ hours (see below for more info).

3. Return the Partner Family Application and your letter, either by email to YatesCountyHabitatforHumanity@gmail.com, or by postal mail to Yates County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 391, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

4. Connect with the Keuka Housing Council (160 Main Street, Penn Yan; 315-536-8707) as described below.

Families Are Selected Based On:

• Need,

• Willingness to help us build the house, and

• Ability to afford the payments.

  To establish Need, we ask you to:

  1) Write a letter describing the inadequacy of your current housing situation, and

  2) Consult with Keuka Housing Council’s mortgage counselors to see if you meet the income requirements for this program.

  To establish Willingness to help us build the house, we ask you to:

  1) Describe in your letter how you can put in 250 hours if you are a single parent, or 500 hours if you are a couple, over the course of the 12-18 months that it will take to build your house.

  To establish Ability to afford the payments, we ask you to:

  1) Take a Home Ownership Course and get a Certificate of Completion, and

  2) Pre-apply for a mortgage.

  Keuka Housing Council (160 Main Street, Penn Yan; 315-536-8707) can help with both of these tasks.

  Please send the letter, your Certificate of Completion, and your Pre-Approval Mortgage letter (or the status of your application) along with the Application Form to: Yates County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 391, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Please print, complete, and sign the Partner Family Application and your materials responding to the Partner Family Selection Criteria above, and return them to the address above.
