What Applicants Need To Do:

Review the Application and the Anti-Steering documents.

Draft a letter explaining your situation and your need for housing.

Meet with Shawn Blauvelt at the Keuka Housing Council to review your income qualifications for the Habitat program. Families should have incomes between 30% and 60% of the Yates County Area Median Income.

Complete the on-line Keuka Housing Council Homeownership Program and obtain your Certificate of Completion.

Apply for a mortgage Pre-Approval. You can meet with Shawn Blauvelt at the Keuka Housing Council for help with this.

Please note that Yates County Habitat for Humanity abides by all Diversity Equity and Inclusion Requirements in selecting our partner families.

The Following are criteria used in selecting our partner families:

  • What is the level of need, including consideration of the family situation and current housing conditions?

  • Is the family able to pay back the cost of the home, taking on an affordable mortgage with payments of around $600 to $800/month?

  • Is the family willing to participate in the construction for 500 hours (per couple) or 250 hours (for single-parent households)?

  • Is the family able to wait to occupy the home for the year or more it could take to build the home?
